The freedom on the water is limitless - until you look into your own tank. Have you ever wondered what really happens there in the summer heat? Is the water from the water source in the harbor really safe? We at Verkauf-Bochum.de say quite clearly: a conventional water filter alone is not a panacea against bacteria. You can only achieve true self-sufficiency on your boat, yacht or in your motorhome with a professional filter system that works as a closed chain.

We don't offer cheap solutions, but a reliable water filter system that uses the latest UVC LED technology to ensure clean drinking water. So that your water filter on board delivers what it promises: fresh drinking water straight from the tap, without ever having to carry heavy crates again. This is our idea of a modern water system for maximum independence at sea.

Clean drinking water on board: common problems & the right system understanding for filters

A water filter on board is only as efficient as the system in which it works. If you have a watermaker, for example, you may desalinate seawater, but hygienic storage in the tank remains the real weak point. A drinking water filter just before the tap is your crucial safety anchor against germs and bacteria that inevitably form in stagnant water and, in the worst case, can be harmful to your health.

Common problems with the water in your boat and motorhome

Before we talk about the solution, we need to name the problems that jeopardize your water quality:

  • Contaminated sources: In marinas or on pitches, you never know what the condition of the pipes is. Rust, sand and sediment enter your system directly through the hose when filling.
  • Stagnation & heat: Water often stands in water tanks for days. In summer temperatures, biofilms and slimy deposits form - the perfect breeding ground for legionella, E. coli and other bacteria and viruses.
  • Taste & pollutants: Whether it's a chemical chlorine aftertaste, a musty smell or residues of microplastics and heavy metals - without professional water filtration, the water loses its drinking quality.

The hygiene chain for water filters: your path to clean water

To solve these problems sustainably, we look at the process as a whole:

Filling → Storage → Pumping → Filtering → Sterilization → Withdrawal.

  1. Filling filter: The first protective barrier. Always use a filling filter when refueling to trap sediment, rust and coarse particles in front of the tank. A sediment filter already protects the basic quality here.
  2. Tank hygiene: Regular cleaning with citric acid (dissolves limescale and biofilm) and subsequent disinfection (e.g. with hydrogen peroxide) are essential. A filter never replaces the mechanical hygiene of the tank!
  3. Filtration & disinfection: high-performance cleaning directly in front of the glass. Only this combination turns simple service water into genuine, clean drinking water.

Filter types & technology: The expert check from Verkauf-Bochum.de

A water filter system must be technically suitable for your boat - especially for the performance of your on-board pump and the available water pressure. We rely on a targeted selection of stages:

  • Activated carbon filter (pre-filter): Adsorption of chlorine, odor and organic pollutants. Important: We use 25 µm instead of 1 µm - this protects your pump from overloading due to pressure loss and minimizes the risk of contamination due to stagnation.

  • UVC LED disinfection: The microbiological barrier. Inactivates 99.999 % of bacteria and viruses (incl. legionella) - chemical-free and tasteless directly in the flow.

  • Membrane filter (alternative technology): Provides high mechanical retention, but often leads to massive pressure loss. This type of filter is not necessary in good UVC systems, as disinfection by light is more efficient and easier to maintain.

  • Sediment filter (optional / filling protection): Serves as a dirt trap against rust and sand. We recommend it primarily as an external filter when filling to keep the tank clean.

A comparison of the most important filter technologies

Filtertyp Funktion Schutz vor System-Vorteil
Sedimentfilter Grobfiltration Rost, Sand, Partikel Hält den Tank sauber, schont die Bordpumpe.
Aktivkohle Adsorption Chlor, Schadstoffe, Geruch Erhält den Wasserdruck, verhindert Abschattung der UV-Strahlen.
UVC-LED UV-Desinfektion Bakterien, Viren, Legionellen Sofort-Schutz am Hahn, chemiefrei & 12V-optimiert.
Membranfilter Ultrafiltration Kleinstpartikel & Keime Hoher Filtrationsgrad, jedoch oft hoher Druckverlust.

Watersprint Solo Nautic II: The technological gold standard

When we talk about professional drinking water treatment on a yacht, Watersprint is the technological spearhead. The WatersprintSolo® Nautic II is not a simple filter, but an integrated system solution that meets exactly the criteria we defined in the expert check.

Why the Solo Nautic II upgrades your water system:

  • Immediate disinfection without lead time: unlike outdated UV lamps, Watersprint's UVC LEDs deliver full irradiation power immediately. Thanks to the integrated flow sensor, the system is only activated when the tap is opened.
  • Maximum self-sufficiency through minimum energy: Perfectly optimized for 12V on-board power supplies. As it only consumes power when tapping (approx. 24 W in operation, <1 W in standby), your battery capacity is conserved.
  • Vibration-resistant and robust: The LED unit is extremely vibration-resistant and virtually maintenance-free. There is no fragile glass that could break in waves and no toxic mercury.
  • Compact design: Specially designed for under-sink installation. The compact filter housing can be easily retrofitted in even the tightest pantry cupboards.
  • Maintenance & safety: An integrated microprocessor constantly monitors the performance of the LEDs. A status display in the visible area lets you know for sure at all times: My water is microbiologically safe.

Our expert opinion

Real safety and maximum convenience are achieved through the perfect interaction of components. Watersprint solutions are so effective precisely because they are designed as an integrated system solution. They combine mechanical filtration using high-quality activated carbon with the microbiological safety of highly efficient UVC disinfection. This ensures that only absolutely clean water flows out of your tap at the end of the chain - regardless of the original water quality in the tank.

FAQ - The most important facts about water filtration at sea

Is UV-C disinfection alone sufficient?

No, it's not that simple. Although the highly efficient UVC LED is extremely reliable in terms of flow, it cannot work miracles if your tank or the hose lines are already heavily contaminated with biofilm. The UV unit is your safety anchor directly in front of the glass, but is never a substitute for clean system maintenance and hygienic water storage.

Why should I not use a 1-µm filter?

Many "experts" advise extreme fineness, but we at Verkauf-Bochum.de look at the practice. A 1-µm filter causes a massive loss of water pressure that overwhelms many standard on-board pumps. In front of a UV unit, this fineness is unnecessary - our 25 µm solution ideally protects the disinfection from shading without paralyzing your system.

Do I still have to use chemicals despite the water filter?

A distinction must be made here: Thanks to Watersprint technology, you can dispense with chemical additives in drinking water during daily operation. But when it comes to tank hygiene, there is no way around basic cleaning. We recommend cleaning the tank annually with citric acid to remove limescale and biofilm and then disinfecting it. The filter at the end of the pipe is the last barrier at the tap, but is no substitute for proper tank maintenance.

How often do the filter cartridges need to be changed?

We recommend replacing the cartridges every 6 months or after the season at the latest (in accordance with DIN 1988). This prevents the filter cartridge itself from becoming a source of germs and ensures that the water filtration system is always working at full capacity.

Does the system reliably protect against microplastics?

Yes, high-quality filter systems with our specific activated carbon stages reliably retain microplastics, pollutants and fine impurities from the water, ensuring high-quality drinking water on every journey.
