Guide: How do I find the right size for my inverter?

Before you calculate the power, an important note on the type designation: Victron specifies the power of its devices prominently in VA (volt-amperes). 3. Select voltage:

• 24V: More efficient for higher outputs, often found in larger motorhomes or on boats.
• 48V: The standard for home storage systems (ESS) and large off-grid systems, as the currents are lowest here (thinner cables, fewer losses).

Example: A Nespresso coffee machine (approx. 1200W) requires a Victron Phoenix inverter with at least 1600VA, preferably 2000VA, to safely absorb the power peaks. Even a modern compressor cooler can bring cheap inverters to their knees due to their high starting current. A Victron Phoenix 500VA can easily cope with these peaks, while others switch off due to overload.
